Groundcover Leather Company was founded in 1990 by Justin and Amanda McCarthy. A family business located on a farm in Currys Post, the company is the expression of a lifelong passion for working with leather and a search for a meaningful livelihood. From small beginings we have grown into a sensibly sized, sustainable enterprise and have become well known as makers of origional, finely handcrafted leather footwear and accessories.
Thanks to the quality of our product, the skill and dedication of our artisans, and our old fashioned customer service we have been able to thrive despite the worst effects of globalisation and tough economic conditions. The single most important reason for our success has been the people who make up the Groundcover family. We have been working together for a very long time. Together we share vast experience and depth of skill, which along with our small size, has allowed us to master a variety of constructions and techniques for different types of footwear.

We also offer a wide range of rucksacks, briefcases, bags, belts and accessories made with the same attention to detail and quality as our footwear. We are also breeders of nguni cattle and have developed a range of colorful nguni skin shoes and bags.

Our full product range can be viewed in the restored wood and iron settlers cottage that is now our store on the farm,
In front of our shop can be found the now famous sculpture and sundial by renown sculptor Abbo Hall.We are well worth visiting.
